Bettina Hartz

Bettina Hartz, born in Berlin in 1974, is a writer and photographer and works as a freelance cultural journalist (for Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Die Zeit, Der Freitag, taz, NZZ, Literaturen, among others).

She studied German language and literature as well as music and theater studies in Berlin. Her diverse oeuvre, for which she has received numerous prizes and grants, includes screenplays, plays, prose and poetry. Altfundland – Ansichten von Italien was published in 2006, followed by the short story Nicht viel in 2007. In 2012 she published Auf dem Rad – Eine Frage der Haltung (On the Bike – A Question of Attitude), a poetics and cultural history of cycling. Rot ist der höchste Ernst is her debut novel.
