Antonio Fian

Antonio Fian was born in Klagenfurt/Carinthia in 1956, now he lives in Vienna. He is an Austrian writer, essayist and dramatist. He was awarded, amongst others, the Austrian state prize of the Federal Ministry for instruction and art for culture journalism (1990), the Lessing promotion prize for criticism (2004) and the Humbert Fink Prize for Literature (2014). His novel Das Polykrates-Syndrom (The Polycrates Syndrome, 2014) was longlisted for the German Book Prize.

No other writer, with the possible exception of Helmut Qualtinger, has captured Austrian mentality – whether of intellectuals or the general populace – more accurately than the Carinthian-born Viennese resident Antonio Fian.
